Making a Difference:
Hospice Caledon relies on the generosity of donors, and groups to ensure that service levels are maintained. Hospice Caledon receives less than half of the required income needed from the Ministry of Health to provide the much needed services utilized by our community. Hospice services are offered free of charge to all. Charitable donations can be made through gifts of cash, pledges, life insurance, securities, wills, in-memoria, special occasion gifts and gifts in kind.

United Way
The United Way is a very popular and simple way for employees to contribute to charities in their community. Although the Hospice Caledon is not a United Way agency, you can still designate your United Way contribution to the Hospice. When you make your donation, just indicate that you would like your gift to go to Hospice Caledon and use the charity number 140038167RR0001
Capital Campaign
We are still raising money towards Bethell House. The long awaited dream of a residential hospice is about to become a reality. Hospice Caledon launched its Public Capital Campaign on June 22, 2008 to ensure its residential hospice Bethell House is built with quality and that Hospice Caledon operates to benefit future generations.
Ways you can donate:
Cash
Make a lump sum donation to Hospice Caledon and receive a charitable tax receipt to apply to reduce your income tax. Any excess can be carried forward to succeeding years.
Special Occasions
Make a donation to Hospice as a wedding, anniversary, birthday, Christmas or Chanukah gift. You will receive a tax receipt and your gift will benefit the community.
Whatever way you choose to make a donation, charitable giving can be very rewarding for both the charity and the donor. It’s great to see your gift benefiting your community and receive tax benefits as well.
It is advisable to check with your lawyer and/or financial advisor to fully understand the benefits and best way to give in context of your personal and unique financial circumstances.
Pledge
Pledge a fixed amount over a 3-5 year pledge period. The Hospice Caledon Foundation will send you a reminder each year and issue a charitable tax receipt as the pledged amounts are received.
Life Insurance
A gift of life insurance is an attractive way to make a charitable donation, at a modest price. One of the most common ways is to transfer an existing paid up policy and receive a tax receipt for the cash surrender value. Alternatively, you could designate the Hospice Caledon Foundation as beneficiary on a new or existing policy. The estate of the insured will receive a charitable tax receipt for the face amount of the policy and the donation will benefit Hospice Caledon and the community. The tax deduction can be applied by the estate in the year of death and carried back to the preceding year.
Gifts of Securities
You can gift publicly traded shares to the Hospice Caledon Foundation rather than selling them and donating the cash.
Since the 2006 Federal Government Budget eliminated the capital gains tax on donations of most publicly traded securities to public charitable organizations, you will receive a tax receipt for the full amount of the gift and complete exemption from capital gains tax. The gift can be used against current or future taxes. By giving in this manner, you avoid holding the securities in your estate where capital gain taxes and probate fees would apply.
Wills
Planned giving is a tax effective means of making a gift to Hospice Caledon Foundation through your estate. This may simply be affected by the addition of a codicil in your will. Bequests can be for a specific amount or a percentage of the residue of your estate.
These gifts are tax effective since they fall outside your estate and will not be subject to probate fees. The full amount of the gift will be tax deductible and thus reduce the amount of tax your estate will have to pay.
In Memoria
Make a gift in memory of a friend or loved one. You will receive a charitable tax receipt and the family will receive an acknowledgement of your gift.
